Malfini a.s. helps slum children with education

Responsible business with respect to the local community is a basic principle and a key value for company Malfini, a.s., one of the biggest European textile producers and distributors. The company supports several underdeveloped regions related to its commercial activities. A great amount of its production originates also in Bangladesh, where the company in cooperation with NGO ADRA helps slum children to achieve education.

For the fourth year in a row, Malfini has been supporting the Chalantika education center in Dhaka, Bangladesh. ´We all know that education means a future. And it is extremely important to the poor children from the most populated country in the world. That´s why we decided to support their talents and natural gifts to help them achieve a dignified life,´ Martina Weberova, the company´s marketing manager, explains the partnership.

What is "Chalantika"?

Chalantika (in Bangladesh called CSCDP center) is a small school located on the edge of the slum of the same name. This slum is home to the poorest people in the city. Tin dwellings standing on bamboo poles over a swamp full of garbage are in contrast with the smiling faces of children and their parents, who are determined to fight their unfavorable conditions. Children with this background have a huge disadvantage when enrolling in school and they are likely to drop out. And that is why they need the support of NGO ADRA and its donors. Thanks to the Malfini´s donation, the children will get nutritious lunches, drink safe water, and wear new uniforms.

Bangladeshi companies help in Bangladesh

Malfini has a business representation with its own subsidiary in Bangladesh, thus the employees have an opportunity to meet the children in person. Often, they bring them something extra. For example, last year every child got a fleece sweatshirt. ´Right before the pandemic we collected toys and writing accessories and took them to the center,´ says Aleksandar Alačkov, whose competencies cover business relations in Asia. And the company´s business connections have brought other meaningful help. Malfini initiated discussions with its Bangladeshi partners. A result? ´Companies from Asia joined the support to the children and throughout the years donated more than a million Czech crowns (48 000 USD),´ specifies Aleksandar Alačkov.

Educated people, prospering companies

Thanks to the stable support, the children can be sure of the education opportunity also in future. Education means getting a well-paid job and better life. Educated people are also valuable capital to the local companies. Improving the living conditions of a single person goes hand in hand with a sustainable and profitable business. Thank you, Malfini, for sharing this thought of corporate social responsibility. Both, in the Czech Republic and abroad.
