Chalantika in 2023

The year 2023 was a significant one for Chalantika Education Centre as it celebrated an amazing 10 years since its inception. Thanks to all of you who have been with us this past year, helping the poor children of Chalantika on their journey to quality education and better living conditions. We look forward to all the joys and challenges that 2024 will bring for us and the children.

Thanks to the Chalantika, children can receive quality education and tutoring, school supplies, nutritious meals, as well as health and social care. With your help, we are currently caring for 150 children. This year the children at Chalantika enjoyed 12,904 nutritious meals. And what has happened since Chalantika was founded on 15 June 2013?

• In its 10 years of existence, the Chalantika centre has helped more than 1,200 children.
• Children at Chalantika have enjoyed more than 150,000 nutritious meals.
• More than 5,100 children have received vital medical care.
• Children have received 9,000 hours of education.
• Parents attend an average of 154 literacy and health education classes per year.
• Numerous charity events have been organised in support of Chalantika.

Celebration of the 10th anniversary of Chalantika

The significant anniversary of Chalantika was celebrated in November with a pleasant gathering at the AdAstra Café. The occasion was used to reminisce about the past years and to discuss the future of the centre. The evening was enriched by video messages from children, parents and colleagues directly from Čalantika, which added to the fantastic atmosphere of the whole evening. 

And what happened throughout the year in Chalantika?

The school year in Bangladesh begins at the same time as the calendar year. After returning to school, the children were busy with their studies. The first two months of the year are filled with classes, classes and home visits. The children have 5 hours of classes a day and are also provided with nutritious food at the centre. Health care is also crucial. All of this is possible thanks to you, our donors.

In order to improve the quality of life of the children in Chalantika, it is important to focus on their parents. For this reason, we also provide education for adults. The photo above was taken during one of these courses in March.

Thanks to your donations, children from Chalantika can go to school and get the education they need. Families of children from the Chalantika slum cannot afford school fees, school supplies and other necessary items for education. In April, the children were delighted to receive sponsorship gifts from the Malfini company, which contributes to school supplies and partially covers school fees.

April was a challenging month for the older children in Chalantika as they sat for important exams, the SSC. Although it was a stressful time for the children, they were very grateful. Without the help of our donors, they would struggle to progress in the education system.

In May we ordered new uniforms and shoes for the children. All activities at the centre continued smoothly and the children received the care they needed. 

In June, the children received essential gifts, including 80 sets of uniforms and pairs of shoes. The prevention programme, which aims to raise the children's health and social awareness, focused this month on early marriage and diarrhoeal diseases.

In July, the programme focused on dengue fever in Bangladesh. Talking to children about these issues is very important. Unfortunately, many children fell ill during this time and were unable to attend school. Thanks to our donors, they received proper medical care. Prevention programmes are also very helpful in this area. In August, the nurse in Čalantika helped the children with their health problems, especially with toothaches, colds and scabies.

A much anticipated and enjoyable activity for the children is the school field trip. In September they visited a family park in Dhaka, where they had lots of fun and good food.

In October, mothers of local children participated in a cooking course, which greatly enriched them.

The end of the year was marked by the usual activities of Chalantika, including health and social care. All the help provided to the children in this educational center is made possible thanks to our generous donors.

Thank you for all your support to the children in Bangladesh in 2023, which we greatly appreciate. We look forward to seeing you again this year, and we wish Chalantika more fantastic anniversaries and successes!
