Smile of the future doctor Sinha

Sinhy is a little eight-year-old girl living in the Bangladeshi slum of Chalantika on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka. Despite her difficult living conditions, she is determined to fight for a better life for herself and her family. She dreams of becoming a doctor one day. Not only because of the prestige the profession brings, but because she sincerely wants to help the impoverished people in her community.

Sinha's life in the slums is not easy. She lives in a small room with her parents and three sisters. The modest dwelling is built of bamboo and tin, and she shares the two-bathroom space with eight other families. Despite her surroundings and difficult living situation, Sinha remains positive and always has a smile on her face.

Sinha is a student at the Chalantika Education Centre, where she attends the first class. She enjoys going to school and enjoys all subjects, but her favourite is Bengali or Bangla. Her favourite hobby is reading books and she dreams of becoming a doctor one day. Her father is a small businessman and her mother is a housewife. Both her parents come from low-income families that did not allow them to get even a basic education, so they are illiterate.

Sinha's mother says, "I couldn't study or do something that would support me, but I want my daughter to study and be independent. And to meet honest people in her life. I thank Adra for supporting my daughter."

Sinha's family struggles to make ends meet with the money her father earns. They have tea and bread for breakfast and rice for lunch and dinner. Her father earns 10,000 taka (about 2,000 CZK) a month, but the family's expenses are higher than his income. Despite the financial difficulties, Sinha's parents are determined to provide their daughters with a good education, as they realise its value to their daily lives.

Although Sinha's parents do not have much education, they instill strong values in their daughter. Sinha is a polite and well-mannered girl who always takes her school responsibilities seriously. She has a helpful and welcoming nature and often helps the teacher in the classroom. Sinha's friends Jannat and Ria are her constant companions. They like to study, play and eat together.

Sinha's life has changed when in 2022 she joined the Chalantika Education Centre, which is run by ADRA Bangladesh in cooperation with the humanitarian organisation ADRA Czech Republic. At the centre, Sinha learns about various school subjects, but also about health, hygiene and good manners. The centre provides her with a safe space where she can learn and develop, and she is grateful for this opportunity. Sinha is determined to make the most of her education and one day become a doctor. She knows that education is the key to a better life for her and her family, and she is willing to work hard to achieve her dreams.

We wish Sinha the best of luck in her educational ambitions and may her education help her gain new opportunities and possibilities for herself and her family.
