Bristy - a future teacher or an artist?

Bristy is a 10-year-old girl from the Chalantika slum in Dhaka. She is a sweet child with a passion for education. She loves to play with dolls and enjoys art, especially drawing. Bristy wants to be a teacher in the future, driven by her desire to help others.

The village where Bristy lived is called Chumoddi in Faridpur district. Bristy was very young when her parents moved to Dhaka in search of a better livelihood. Initially they settled in a slum near Shyamoli Kazi, but unfortunately it was ravaged by fire. They then moved to the Chalantika slum where they still live today.

The Bristy family faces a number of difficulties in the Chalantika slum. Their shelter is very modest, made of bamboo, wood and tin. Together with twenty-three other families, they share five cooking areas and three toilets. Her father collects and sells waste and her mother works as a domestic helper, so their monthly income is around 9000 BDT, around 85 USD, barely covering their basic needs.

Although their income is very limited, they have enrolled Bristy's elder brother in Islamia Government Primary School because they realise the importance of education. And thanks to the support of you donors and the Chalantika Education Center, Bristy was later able to attend the same school as her older brother.

A regular at the Chalantika Education Centre since 2022, Bristy excels in English and finds pleasure in painting. Apart from education, the centre aims to convey moral values or hygiene habits to the children.

She enjoys spending time with her classmates Nuhy and Lipi, who are in the same class at the education centre. They learn and play together, giving each other support in the midst of the challenges their lives bring.

Brist's journey is intertwined with the support and opportunities provided by the Chalantika Education Center. The project helps with her personal development and enables her to follow her dreams.

Every child in our centre has a story to tell and it is your support that means hope for a promising future for them!
